Will I Stick with My Curriculum Choice or Will I Leave?

For the past several years, I have used Abeka and Bob Jones University Press or (BJU) to homeschool my two sons.

Well for the 2022-2023 school year, I decided that I needed a change.

Why do I need a change from my previous curriculum?

The reason is I wanted to try an online curriculum for the 2022-2023 school year.

In addition, I wanted to reduce my planning time for lessons and have a set start and end date for the school year with an option to add non-school days to my school calendar.

What curriculum did I chose?

I chose Alpha Omega Publication Monarch Online Curriculum.

Like with any curriculum, there are always pros and cons when beginning a new curriculum.

Today's post is all about the pros and cons of Monarch. (Please note: These are my opinions after my second week of using Monarch).

Monarch's Pros and Cons

Pros

Cons

  • 30 Days Free Trial with not credit card needed

  • Rush Through Assignment to Mark As Complete

  • Printable Lessons, Quiz, and Test Questions

  • Assignments Appearing a Day Ahead of Time Allowing Student to work ahead-this is okay if the teacher wants the student to complete assignments to prepare for vacation or a field trip

  • No Lesson Planning

  • Test or quizzes appear a week or two later for the student to complete- For example, my son had a Biology Lesson about Properties of Compound on October 6, 2022, but his quiz 2 for Properties of Compounds does not appear until October 18, 2022

  • Schedule Start and End Date of School Year

  • I have to unassign and reassign the quiz or test to follow the lesson to ensure that my students can recall the information learned within the previous days.

  • Schedule Vacation & Non-school Days & the calendar adjusts for you

  • 85% of Grading is done by the computer

  • Customize the Quizzes or Test to Allow a Specific Number of Attempts

  • Allow Student to Retake Quiz or Test

  • Skip Quiz or Test Problems (Teacher & Student)

  • Assign and Unassign Assignments (Teacher Can)

  • When my student scores below my assignment, quiz, or test grade of a C, I receive an email to my personal account with the student's name, subject name and assignment. This allows me an opportunity to go back to his test and reset it for him to retake.

At the moment, Monarch curriculum is working for my students'.

Is Monarch challenging my students?

Yes, it is.

My students cannot just read and forget the information learned the previous week because they take a quiz or test over the information the following week.

Thank you for visiting my blog, see you need time!!!!

Happy Homeschooling!!!!
