I am here to give the bad and good of homeschooling my children. Come along on this ride with me buckle up and hold on, it is going to be an interesting journey.
Every day, I ask myself these questions.
Why am I homeschooling?
What the heck was I thinking. This is a lot of work. It requires a lot of patience, time, therapy, and not to mention time spent with your kids everyday. You learn one another very well. So much, you are happy to miss them for a little. Thank you for Aunts, I appreciate you all!
Do I have to destress from my homeschool day?
Yes! I find myself taking several me time breaks. This Mom needs a few minutes to herself.
Did I make the right decision homeschooling? This is a question that I ask myself everyday. I could be in a classroom bringing home a paycheck. For instance, I have my Master's Degree in Education and Undergraduate Degree in Business, but I made the decision to homeschool my children.
Do I need a homeschool schedule? It will help, but it will not work. I have learned this the hard way. My kids do not wake up on time. I have to go into their rooms.
To ensure that they get up, I have to inform my kids that their delay in waking up on time will determine if they can play their video game this weekend.
They jump up quickly then.
I remember when I was just like them. I understand my Mom's struggle to wake me up for school.
Am I choosing the right curriculum for my children?
I hope the curriculum that I chose keeps my children's interest if not.
Well, I have to sell these books on eBay before I can purchase more. These books and supplies are not cheap.
Will my family agree with my decision?
I appreciate their concerns, but I am going to do as much research about homeschooling to determine if it is right for us.
How will my child socialize with peers of his or her age?
Well, everyday, my kids interact with a variety of kids from homeschool and public school. They are well socialized.
How will I incorporate physical education?
Physical education happens everyday in my home. Kids go outside and pick up the poop, my kids have tasks that they complete everyday.
Where can I find help when homeschooling my children? The public library has several programs for a variety of ages throughout the week for your kids. When I need a break, we go to the library. There is nothing like a nice car ride to get a break.
Whose else can give me a break?
Homeschool P.E. if it is offered in your state, it is a great way to complete the homeschool p.e. requirement.
It is my favorite because I have an hour to myself to do whatever I want while my children have fun. This hour is a well needed break not only for myself, but it is for my kids too. Just like I need a break from them, they need one from me as well.
Is homeschooling easy?
No, it is not. Take family trips, schedule field trips, have self care days, and make memories together.
What is homeschooling like for me several years later?
My seat beat is still on, and I have came across several pot holes.
Do you know the ones where it feel like your tire is flat? That is the one.
Here I am several years later, still at it. I have two boys my oldest is an upcoming high schooler (9th grader) and my youngest is an upcoming (7th grader).
Did I just mention that I have teenagers? That is a whole nother story for another time.
I am making it happen one day at a time. I am learning a lot on this road about myself and learning from my kids too.
So, I was once in your shoes. It is not easy homeschooling, but you are creating a strong family bond that will last a lifetime.
If you are homeschooling: I highly recommend enjoying your homeschool journey because time flies. Take lots of pictures, videos, and make memories It will be frustrating, uneasy, and challenging at times.
If you a considering homeschooling, I say give it a try. I wanted to make sure you understand the journey will be rough.
If you do not try it, you will never know if you can.
If you are homeschooling, hang in there, you got this! Just Breathe, take it one day at a time.
Remember: Life Is Not Easy But Keep Pushing & Remember Love Yourself First
